Pre-arrival Information

Prepare for coming to Japan, Toyohashi (for your reference)

Passport, Certificate of Eligibility and Visa

You need a Student visa in order to study at TUT as a student. Please start preparing for getting Passport, Certificate of Eligibility and Student visa.

Passport: Even if you already have a passport, please check to make sure that it has not expired.

Certificate of Eligibility: TUT will apply for a COE to the local immigration bureau on your behalf. A COE will be issued in a digital format via email. We will forward the email (electronic COE) upon issuance. The COE is valid for 3 months after the date of issue and you must enter Japan before the COE expires. We will ask you to fill in a form to apply for the COE and hand out related documents around May.

Visa: Apply for a visa with your nearest Embassy of Japan (or Consulate-General of Japan). You need to present the COE (email) on your smartphone or a copy of the email. Please check with the embassy (or consulate) in advance regarding the procedures since the process and necessary documents are different for each country.

Housing

Students on IMLEX program can go into the dormitory, called International Student House in TUT.

【Private apartment】

You could choose to live in a private apartment but you need a guarantor. It is difficult to make a contract with an apartment owner from overseas. It is recommended to look for an apartment after your arrival.

Flight arrangement

You will arrange your own flight. If you are planning to move into the International Student House, please make sure when you are allowed to move in before scheduling your flight.

Visit Japan Web

It is the online immigration service "Visit Japan Web". This service allows you to get the arrival procedures for "immigration", "customs" and other services done online, which is really helpful.

Refer to the budget as listed above, it is recommended to prepare enough money to cover your living expenses for at least 2 months because it usually takes much longer than expected to open a bank account in Japan.

How to get to Toyohashi

Make sure to check your transportation method, route, and time from your arrival airport to Toyohashi. Please note that you may be charged an additional fee to take the Shinkansen with oversized luggage, so please make sure to check this Here before your arrival. In addition, it is recommended to have the cash (change) to purchase tickets for local buses.

Your upcoming schedule after arriving in Japan

There are very important administrative procedures for you to do. Supporter will help you to get it done. You will also need to complete some procedures after the entrance ceremony. The instructions will be given by the International Student Section.

Things to bring with you

If you are taking a specially prescribed medication, note that you may not be able to acquire the same medicine in Japan. It may also be necessary to obtain permission in advance to bring certain prescription medications into Japan, so be sure to consult with a doctor in your home country.
