We are developing techniques for sensing light properties that cannot be seen with the eye, such as spectrum and polarization, by combining imaging hardware with information processing. Our laboratory is engaged in the following research projects: imager and filter fabrication (nanoprocessing), spectroscopic/polarimetric measurement, compressed sensing, image reconstruction, and the application of these to medicine and agriculture. We provide a comprehensive learning environment that covers a wide range of imaging topics from input to output. We are looking for students who want to be pioneers, not just in the trends of today, but also in unexplored imaging fields.

The main research topics are Augmented Reality and Human-Computer Interaction. One of our current focuses is on "perception of grasping virtual objects with bare hands." Bare-handed interaction is the most natural way for us but it means there is no physical feedback from the virtual objects to the user. We have been studying how to present the visual and auditory information to improve this perception.
We welcome your new ideas and challenges and we hope that our time together in the lab will be an opportunity not only to study but also to have cultural exchange.
